The repository profiles 110 startups and non-profits that have moved beyond experimental pilots to deploy Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions at a population scale, addressing critical gaps in healthcare, agriculture, and public service delivery.
The release, published by IndiaAI in collaboration with Kalpa Impact, marks the first structured mapping of the nation’s “AI-for-impact” ecosystem. By documenting ventures with high technical maturity and scalability, the government aims to provide a clear roadmap for policymakers and global investors looking to integrate AI into existing public health frameworks.
From Pilot Projects to Public Infrastructure
For years, AI in healthcare was often viewed through the lens of localized hospital pilots. The 2026 repository signals a decisive shift toward systemic integration. Of the 110 featured entities, a significant portion is dedicated to healthcare, focusing on “super-utility” applications designed for the unique challenges of the Global South.
“India’s AI ecosystem is maturing rapidly,” said Mohammed Y. Safirulla K, IAS, IndiaAI Mission. “This repository captures a critical moment where Indian startups are moving from promising pilots to deployed, scaled solutions that serve millions.”
One of the standout trends identified in the report is the rise of voice-based AI and vernacular interfaces. These tools are bridging the literacy and language barriers that previously excluded rural populations from high-quality care. By enabling patients to interact with diagnostic bots in their native dialects, these startups are turning smartphones into frontline health assistants.

“The true measure of success lies in AI’s ability to improve access to services and deliver real human outcomes,” emphasized Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY). “For policymakers, it highlights capabilities ready for integration with our digital public infrastructure.”

During a high-level panel at the summit, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman and MD of Medanta – The Medicity, cautioned that while AI is a “very positive thing,” it must be used as a component of care.
“AI is here to augment and assist,” added Smt. Anupriya Patel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. “By reducing the burden of routine tasks, AI enables doctors to devote more time to complex cases and critical decision-making.”
Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO of the National Health Authority (NHA), underscored the ethical responsibility involved: “In finance, you may lose money. In health, you risk trust and lives.” He noted that the newly launched Strategy for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare for India (SAHI) framework will ensure that AI tools are continuously monitored for “drift” or declining accuracy over time.
