December 18 is International Migrants Day

This year, the World Health Organization has marked the day with the launch of the “Refugee and migrant health: Global Competency Standards for health workers” (the Standards). The Standards and accompanying Knowledge Guide and Curriculum Guide aim to strengthen the health workforce and support the provision of quality people-centred and culturally sensitive health services to migrants and refugees.

This is the first set of Competency Standards to be developed for health workers who provide health services to refugees and migrants as well as for educational institutions to incorporate these standards and foundational knowledge and skills into health worker training.
