“During its 68-year journey, AIIMS has undeniably upheld its reputation as the nation’s premier healthcare institution. Today, even children in villages across India recognize the name AIIMS,” stated Prof. S P Singh Baghel, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, as he presided over the 68th Foundation Day celebrations of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Dr. V K Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, was also in attendance.

Prof. Baghel expressed his delight in AIIMS New Delhi securing the top spot for the sixth consecutive year in the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. He affirmed that AIIMS has become a prominent brand, with its reputation resonating across the nation. He urged AIIMS officials to continue maintaining this esteemed image and propel the brand to even greater heights. The Union Health Minister emphasized that India now stands on par with developed nations in healthcare, owing to its highly skilled human resources. He noted that a significant number of doctors in developed countries are of Indian origin, and India is renowned for its vaccine production capabilities, pharmaceutical industries, and innovations in the medtech sector. He further highlighted that, under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, India is championing holistic healthcare with a focus on preventive care.

Prof. S P Singh Baghel toured the exhibition themed “AIIMS: Leading India’s Health Care Security” and honored students for their outstanding achievements and contributions. He encouraged AIIMS students to persevere and reminded them of their responsibilities.

Dr. V K Paul delivered the Diamond Jubilee Oration, reflecting on India’s COVID-19 Vaccination Journey, which he described as a tale of “Atmanirbharta” (self-reliance) and “Atmavishwas” (self-confidence). He underscored India’s success in manufacturing both indigenous and foreign vaccines through technology transfer, at a significant scale. Dr. Paul emphasized India’s monumental COVID-19 vaccination strategy, encompassing administration, logistics, communication, and the rollout process. He pointed out that 98% of India’s vaccine administration was conducted free of charge through the public health system.

Dr. Paul emphasized the importance of nurturing India’s pharmaceutical, medical, and medtech sectors to maintain India’s competitive edge in these fields in the years to come. Prof. M Srinivas, Director, AIIMS New Delhi; Prof. Minu Bajpai, Dean, AIIMS New Delhi; and Prof. Girija Prasad Rath, Registrar, AIIMS New Delhi, were also present at the event.
