A recent survey by Naukri.com has revealed that 39% of the Indian workforce has noticed tangible benefits from their company’s mental health programs, underscoring the growing importance of mental well-being initiatives in the workplace. The survey, conducted on Friday, highlighted the positive impact these programs have had, with nearly half (48%) of employees rating them as “highly effective,” indicating that many companies are moving in the right direction to support employee well-being.

However, the survey also identified areas where more focused efforts are needed to foster a workplace culture that encourages open discussions around mental health. Employees expressed specific needs to feel more comfortable addressing their mental well-being at work.

Among the most requested resources was professional counseling, with 45% of respondents emphasizing its importance. Another 37% called for the implementation of clear mental health policies, while 35% valued the opportunity to openly discuss mental health issues with their leadership. Furthermore, 25% of employees noted the necessity for better mental health training for managers, indicating a growing demand for supportive and informed management practices.

Despite the positive feedback, not all employees found these initiatives impactful. Approximately 23% of the respondents who experienced limited benefits viewed the programs as “formalities” without meaningful impact. Meanwhile, 27% acknowledged some progress but felt that stronger efforts were required, and 11% reported that their workplaces did not offer any mental health support at all.

These findings align with broader trends in the job market, where mental health support is increasingly becoming a critical factor in employment decisions. Jobseekers are now actively prioritizing organizations that offer substantial and effective mental health initiatives. Companies that prioritize employee well-being are likely to gain a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining top talent, the survey noted.

As mental health becomes a pivotal aspect of workplace culture, the survey suggests that companies need to continuously evolve and strengthen their mental health programs to create a supportive and resilient environment for their employees.
