New Delhi, April 25, 2025: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the advance city intimation slips for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025, but the move has led to widespread concern among aspirants regarding the allotted examination centres. The exam, scheduled for May 4, 2025, is the largest entrance test in India, with over 20 lakh students expected to participate this year.
The early release of city information was intended to facilitate travel and accommodation planning for candidates. However, shortly after the announcement, social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), were flooded with complaints from students who found themselves assigned exam centres far from their residences, often in cities they had not listed among their top preferences or, in some cases, not chosen at all.
Aspirant Zama Jafri questioned on X, “Why is my city preference 3rd chosen as a centre in NEET?” This sentiment was echoed by numerous others. Many expressed frustration at being allocated their third preference, while some claimed the allotted city wasn’t even on their submitted list.
The logistical challenges posed by distant centres are a major point of concern. “Please change my examination city,” wrote one user, tagging the NTA. “Why have you given 3rd choice as my Examination city @NTA_Exams please change it. It is too far… And transport communication is not smooth here in small districts.”
Students highlighted the potential disruption to their crucial final preparation days and the added stress and financial burden of arranging long-distance travel and lodging on short notice. “Sir, you gave the 3rd preference of my exam city centre. So on the day of exam it would be very difficult for long journey. So sir resolve this problem,” appealed another user, Shubham Goud.
Another aspirant urged the NTA, “Sir, please ensure centres allotted are near the student’s address and comfortable for giving this life-changing exam to enter medical colleges.”
In its official public notice dated April 23, the NTA clarified that the released slip is not the final admit card but “advance information for the allotment of the City where the Examination Centre will be located, to facilitate the candidates.” The1 agency stated that the official admit cards for NEET-UG 2025 will be issued later.
The NTA has advised students facing difficulties in downloading or checking their city intimation slip to contact them via helpline numbers (011-40759000 / 011-69227700) or email ([email protected]).
NEET-UG 2025 is scheduled to be conducted in pen-and-paper mode on Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM IST across 552 cities in India and 14 international locations. It serves as the primary gateway for admission into MBBS, BDS, and various other undergraduate medical courses nationwide.
As the exam date nears, students and parents are anxiously appealing to the NTA to address the concerns regarding centre allocation, hoping to minimize travel-related stress that could impact performance on the critical examination day. The NTA has not yet issued a public response to these specific grievances.
