New Delhi, May 22:
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday announced a significant milestone in the city’s healthcare outreach, revealing that nearly 3 lakh residents have been registered under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY). According to the Chief Minister, a total of 2,95,237 Delhiites have now gained access to free medical treatment worth up to Rs 10 lakh through the scheme.
The announcement came during a high-level review meeting on healthcare initiatives. CM Gupta also highlighted that 1,23,242 senior citizens above the age of 70 have enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY), which provides financial security and medical support to the elderly.
“Our government is working 24×7 to ensure affordable and quality healthcare for all. A healthy Delhi is the foundation of a Viksit Delhi,” said Gupta, emphasizing her administration’s commitment to inclusive healthcare.
Currently, around 100 hospitals in Delhi are empanelled under the PMJAY and PMVVY schemes, enabling beneficiaries to access a wide range of medical services. Importantly, Gupta noted that beneficiaries can also avail treatment in empanelled hospitals outside Delhi, ensuring flexibility and broader access to care.
Addressing hospital infrastructure, the Chief Minister reported that several construction and upgradation projects are in progress. She urged relevant departments to expedite these projects, stressing that all hospitals must meet Indian Public Health Standards and be equipped with modern facilities, adequate staffing, and essential medicines.
Gupta further announced the establishment of Ayushman Arogya Mandirs under the Ayushman Bharat Mission. A total of 1,139 centres are set to be established across Delhi, with approximately 15 in each Assembly constituency. These centres will offer free basic health services and run awareness programmes to promote preventive healthcare.
The Chief Minister concluded by reiterating her government’s resolve to make healthcare accessible, affordable, and of high quality for every Delhi resident.
