AMARAVATI, Andhra Pradesh — Health authorities in Andhra Pradesh have confirmed seven new COVID-19 cases, bringing the state’s total cumulative caseload to 26. State officials emphasized that the newly reported cases are geographically scattered across multiple districts rather than concentrated in a single local outbreak, calling for continued vigilance without public panic.

The update, released by the Department of Health, Medical, and Family Welfare on July 21, 2026, comes amid routine seasonal surveillance across India. Public health leaders noted that early diagnostic testing and proactive monitoring remain the most effective tools to prevent sporadic cases from developing into community transmission.

What the Latest Update Shows

According to official state health department data, the seven fresh cases detected on Tuesday were identified across three districts:

  • Guntur District: 4 new cases

  • East Godavari District: 2 new cases

  • Bapatla District: 1 new case

This brings the total geographic distribution to several regions, including YSR Kadapa (which maintains the highest total at 8 cases), Guntur (6), East Godavari (3), Kakinada (2), and Bapatla (2). Single cases have also been detected in Visakhapatnam, Eluru, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, NTR, and Parvathipuram Manyam districts.

Recent genome sequencing by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune identified the Omicron sublineage RF.5 in isolated state samples, consistent with circulating variants monitored globally.

While an uptick from 19 to 26 cases within a short window draws attention, epidemiologists emphasize that incremental gains in case counts during routine surveillance do not automatically signify a rising epidemic wave.

“The current infections are sporadic and geographically dispersed, with no evidence of cluster transmission in any particular locality,” stated a senior official from the Andhra Pradesh Health Department. “Our primary focus remains on early detection, ring-fencing contacts, and ensuring our healthcare facilities are prepared.”
