Zomato’s Co-founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, unveiled a new feature on Friday designed to help customers make healthier eating choices.
Initially, the company will suggest ‘roti’ as a healthier alternative to ‘naan’. According to Goyal, the new feature has already shown promising results, with a seven percent “attach rate” for these healthier suggestions. “We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback for this feature,” Goyal stated.
He further explained the company’s plans to expand this feature to other dishes and categories. “For example, if you are craving a dessert, we might show you lower calorie desserts as options when you add the former to your cart,” Goyal mentioned in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
In March, Goyal faced criticism over the launch of a ‘pure veg mode’ on the Zomato platform, where riders wore ‘green’ uniforms to signify vegetarian deliveries. Following strong backlash, the company decided to revert the uniform colors from green to red for all deliveries.
On the financial front, Zomato reported a net profit of Rs 175 crore in Q4 FY24, a significant turnaround from a loss of Rs 188 crore in the same period the previous year. The company’s stock was trading around Rs 194 apiece on Friday.
Zomato’s new feature is part of a broader initiative to encourage healthier eating habits among its customers, aligning with a growing trend towards health-conscious dining choices in the food industry.
