Varanasi, July 15, 2025 — The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is set to inaugurate a landmark three-day event, the Youth Spiritual Summit, in Varanasi from July 18 to 20, 2025, aimed at combating drug addiction among India’s youth. The summit, themed ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’, will bring together 500 young delegates from the youth wings of 100 spiritual organizations across the country, converging on the sacred ghats of the Ganga.

Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya announced the initiative, emphasizing that youth are the torchbearers of Amrit Kaal and pivotal to realizing the vision of a developed India by 2047. He highlighted that substance abuse is one of the gravest threats facing the nation’s young population, which constitutes over 65% of India’s demographic.

The summit will feature four plenary sessions covering topics such as:

  • Understanding addiction and its impact on youth

  • Dismantling peddler networks and commercial interests

  • Effective campaigning and outreach

  • Charting a comprehensive commitment towards a drug-free India by 2047

Representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Social Justice, Ministry of Culture, Narcotics Control Bureau, and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) will participate, alongside local bodies, cooperatives, and educational institutions.

A key outcome of the summit will be the unveiling of the ‘Kashi Declaration’, a strategic action plan based on the summit’s deliberations, intended to guide nationwide efforts against drug abuse. The event is envisioned as the launchpad for a sustained, annual campaign, with targets set and reviewed each year to build a mass movement for a drug-free India.

Minister Mandaviya stated, “We want to make India Nasha Mukt (drug-free), and this programme is to shape the course of action towards that goal. Every year we will set a target and every year it will be reviewed. We want to create janandolan (people’s movement)”.
