Nagpur: A 50-year-old woman doctor, Dr. Archana Anil Rahule, working in the physiotherapy department of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), was found dead at her residence in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Saturday night. Police suspect foul play due to a head wound.
Dr. Rahule was an assistant professor and lived alone as her husband, Dr. Anil Rahule, worked in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and their son studied medicine in Pune. Dr. Anil Rahule discovered the body around 9:30 pm upon returning home after several days.
Authorities believe the incident occurred approximately three days before the body was found, as decomposition had begun. The main door was open, and a foul odor emanated from the house.
Dr. Anil Rahule and his elder brother Raju were arrested and appeared in court on Sunday, where they were remanded to police custody until April 17. Police suspect they used a hard, sharp object in the crime, which has not yet been recovered.
The Hudkeshwar police team, led by Senior Inspector Gnyaneshwar Bhedodkar, ACP Narendra Hiware, and Zonal DCP Rashmitha Rao, solved the case after questioning Dr. Anil, who initially suggested the involvement of unidentified assailants.
A murder case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing, including examining the victim’s mobile phone records and exploring the possibility of robbery.
