Bicholim, Goa – The Anil Agarwal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Vedanta, is taking significant steps to combat rabies in Goa through a new partnership with the Goa government. This collaboration aims to establish an Animal Care Organisation (TACO) flagship project in Bicholim Taluka, a vital initiative in the ongoing battle against rabies in the region.
The new animal welfare centre will occupy two acres of land provided by the Sankhali Municipal Council and will serve as a comprehensive facility for animal care. The project will focus initially on an animal birth control centre that will offer spaying and neutering services, along with a robust anti-rabies vaccination drive. This approach not only aims to protect animal health but also seeks to improve public safety and reduce the incidence of rabies transmission.
Rabies, a fatal viral disease, poses a significant threat to both animals and humans, and its prevalence is exacerbated by the rising stray dog population in Goa. By managing the stray animal population through effective birth control measures, TACO intends to support the state’s vision of achieving a rabies-free Goa.
Vedanta Ltd has underscored that this partnership reflects its commitment to advancing animal healthcare and fostering community-led initiatives. By integrating public health objectives with animal welfare, this initiative is set to create a safer environment for both residents and animals alike.
As Goa continues its efforts towards public health and safety, this partnership marks a significant milestone in enhancing animal welfare services while addressing the critical issue of rabies. The collaborative efforts between the Anil Agarwal Foundation and the Goa government highlight a proactive approach to ensuring a healthier and safer community for all.
