Bhopal, May 30, 2025 — In a significant meeting held at the Raj Bhawan in Bhopal, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel called on Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai C. Patel to discuss ongoing efforts to raise awareness about sickle cell disease and promote the welfare of artisans.
Governor Mangubhai C. Patel welcomed Governor Anandiben Patel and presented her with a special cover on sickle cell awareness, prepared by the Department of Posts. This gesture highlighted the ongoing sickle cell awareness programme, a Central government initiative actively supervised by the Madhya Pradesh Governor, particularly targeting tribal communities where the disease is most prevalent.
Governor Mangubhai C. Patel has been leading regular reviews and issuing directives to officials to ensure progress in combating sickle cell disease. The programme aims to improve health outcomes and raise awareness about the condition, which disproportionately affects tribal populations in the state.
Governor Anandiben Patel was in Madhya Pradesh to inaugurate a handicraft exhibition at Bhopal Haat. The event was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who participated as a special guest.
During her address, Governor Anandiben Patel emphasized the need for state governments to support inter-state travel for artisans, which she believes would help them access wider markets and opportunities. She cited the example of the yarn bank in Maheshwar, Khargone district, as a model for ensuring that raw materials are readily available near artisans’ workplaces.
“Government sensitivity, a cooperative attitude, and prompt resolution of artisans’ issues can significantly boost the handicraft sector,” she remarked. Governor Patel also praised Madhya Pradesh’s initiatives in promoting self-help groups and girls’ education, recognizing their positive impact on local communities.
The meeting underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between states to address public health challenges and support traditional crafts, both of which are vital for the socio-economic development of the region.
