Lucknow: A controversy has arisen in Uttar Pradesh after State Minister Sanjeev Gond reportedly ordered the transfer of a doctor for allegedly failing to greet him properly upon his arrival at a Community Health Centre for an inauguration.

Minister Gond, the Minister of State for Social Welfare and Scheduled Caste and Tribal Welfare, visited the Community Health Centre in Dilbulganj, which falls within his constituency of Obra in the Sonbhadra district, on Wednesday to inaugurate a solar power plant.

According to reports, the minister was not greeted by the medical superintendent, Dr. Ravi Singh, upon arrival. A video circulating online shows the minister questioning Dr. Singh about his absence and subsequently calling the Sonbhadra Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to request the doctor’s transfer. In the video, Minister Gond can be heard saying that the doctor’s behavior was inappropriate and that he should be transferred “to some jungle.” Dr. Singh is seen pleading that he was attending to a patient.

Later, Minister Gond stated that the doctor was likely unaware of his arrival. He emphasized his concern for the facilities at the hospital, as many poor patients seek treatment there.

The incident has sparked criticism from opposition parties, with members of the Congress and Samajwadi Party condemning the minister’s actions.
