Collective Efforts Key to Addressing Pesticide Concerns: Shri Prataprao Jadhav

New Delhi– The Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, inaugurated the first-ever National Stakeholder Consultation organized by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to address concerns related to pesticide residues in food products. The consultation brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, agricultural experts, industry leaders, and consumer representatives, to deliberate on effective measures for ensuring food safety.

In his address, Shri Prataprao Jadhav emphasized the critical need for collaborative efforts in mitigating the risks associated with pesticide residues. He highlighted the significance of good agricultural practices (GAP), the responsible use of agrochemicals, and the adoption of scientific advancements to safeguard public health.

“The presence of pesticide residues in food is a pressing issue that demands a multi-stakeholder approach. Farmers, regulators, researchers, and the food industry must work together to find sustainable solutions that protect consumers while ensuring agricultural productivity,” said Shri Jadhav.

The consultation covered key aspects such as the strengthening of regulatory frameworks, capacity-building initiatives for farmers, promotion of organic and natural farming techniques, and the need for advanced testing infrastructure. Experts also discussed the role of public awareness campaigns in educating consumers about the risks associated with excessive pesticide use.

FSSAI officials reiterated their commitment to enhancing food safety standards in India by ensuring rigorous testing, effective policy implementation, and close coordination with agricultural and health authorities. The discussions during the event are expected to pave the way for concrete policy recommendations and regulatory improvements in pesticide management.

The event concluded with a call for increased investment in research and development to explore eco-friendly alternatives to chemical pesticides and the need for continuous monitoring of food safety parameters to protect public health.
