In a momentous stride towards advancing dental healthcare and nursing education, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the new headquarters of the National Dental Commission (NDC) and laid the foundation stones for three Nursing Colleges in Andhra Pradesh and one in Jammu and Kashmir. The inauguration and foundation stone laying ceremony were conducted virtually, showcasing the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the country.

The event also witnessed the presiding over of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Dental Council of India and the Quality Council of India. This collaboration is aimed at assessing and rating undergraduate dental colleges, ensuring the highest standards in dental education. Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that these initiatives are geared towards making dental education more practical, affordable, and transparent, while simultaneously ensuring accessible and affordable dental treatment for patients.

“The advent of Dental Commission heralds marking a new era in dental education and administration,” stated Dr. Mandaviya. He expressed the government’s dedication to fostering awareness about oral hygiene, tapping into vast opportunities in the domain, and providing quality healthcare services to the nation.

Under the National Health Digital Mission, Dr. Mandaviya launched the National Dental Register (NDR), a crucial step towards transparency in the dental profession. The NDR, created under the One Nation One Register initiative, will provide a Unique Identification (DCI ID) to all practicing dentists in India after verification from the respective State Dental Councils. This registry will empower citizens to identify verified dentists, enhancing trust and accountability in dental healthcare.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening the nursing workforce and reducing healthcare disparities across regions. He announced the establishment of 157 new nursing colleges co-located with existing medical colleges. The move aims to provide quality and affordable healthcare, with a focus on creating opportunities in the healthcare sector. Dr. Mandaviya also emphasized the inclusion of foreign language courses in medical education institutes, providing an advantage to students seeking opportunities abroad.

Shri Manik Saha, Chief Minister of Tripura, praised the transformation in the health sector, noting that the establishment of these institutions will ensure easy accessibility to affordable healthcare services for the common man. Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, underscored the pivotal role of nurses in healthcare delivery and labeled the establishment of nursing colleges as a significant step towards building qualified human resources, aligning with the national mandate for universal healthcare.

The event was attended by senior government officials, including Shri Apurva Chandra, Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Dr. Vipul Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Distinguished personalities from the healthcare sector, such as Padmashri Dr. Anil Kohli, Dr. R.K Bali, Dr. Dibyendu Majumdar, Dr. Montu M. Patel, and Dr. T Dileep Kumar, were also present, along with faculty and students from various dental and nursing institutes across the country. The ceremony marked a significant milestone in the government’s efforts to enhance healthcare infrastructure, education, and accessibility across India.
