New Delhi, February 13, 2024 – In a significant stride towards enhancing patient convenience and promoting digital transactions in healthcare, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card today. Developed in collaboration with the State Bank of India (SBI), the AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card aims to revolutionize the payment experience for patients seeking treatment at AIIMS New Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized that the introduction of the AIIMS Smart Payment Card marks a milestone in resolving the longstanding issue of patients, especially those from remote areas, carrying cash for treatment expenses. He highlighted that patients or their caretakers can easily obtain the card from facilitation centers across AIIMS New Delhi and subsequently utilize it for hassle-free payments at various counters within the hospital.
Hailing the launch as a major leap in patient care services and a testament to the Digital India initiative championed by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Dr. Mandaviya underscored the transformative impact of digitalization in healthcare. Referring to the Smart Payment Card as ‘One AIIMS, One Card,’ the Union Minister emphasized its potential to facilitate swift fund transfers from across the country to address urgent payment requirements for patients receiving treatment at AIIMS New Delhi. He also announced plans to extend the services of these cards to all AIIMS across the country in the near future, further enhancing patient convenience and accessibility.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) pertaining to the implementation of the SBI-AIIMS New Delhi Smart card system was also signed during the event, signifying a collaborative effort towards promoting digital healthcare infrastructure.
Provided free of cost to all patients, the SBI-AIIMS Smart card is linked to the patient’s Unique Hospital Identification (UHID) number and the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID issued under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The card ensures secure transactions through a One Time Password (OTP) received on the patient’s registered mobile number, preventing frauds and theft. In case of loss, patients can obtain a replacement card free of cost, with the balance transferred to the new card.
The launch event, attended by Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, Shri Manjeet Singh, DGM of State Bank of India, and senior officials from the Union Health Ministry, marks a significant step towards advancing patient-centric healthcare services and fostering a digitally empowered healthcare ecosystem in India.
The AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card is poised to revolutionize healthcare transactions, ensuring seamless payments and enhancing the overall patient experience at AIIMS New Delhi.
