In a significant step toward promoting a healthier lifestyle, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, led the Fit India Sundays on Cycle campaign in the National Capital today. He was accompanied by members of cycling clubs, Olympic rower Arjun Lal Jat, and representatives from industry bodies such as FICCI and CII. Participants also included members from fitness organizations like Decathlon, Yoga Bharat, and My Bharat.

Now in its ninth week, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has rapidly expanded into a nationwide fitness movement, with cycling events taking place in over 1,200 locations across the country. The campaign was inspired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s call to combat obesity through mindful eating, reduced oil consumption, and regular physical activity. Speaking at the event, Dr. Mandaviya reiterated the importance of fitness, stating, “In our collective battle against obesity, as initiated by the Honourable PM, we must make daily fitness activities a part of our lives. Cycling is the simplest form of exercise with a profound impact on both personal health and the environment. It reduces carbon footprints and provides a solution to pollution.”

Each week, Fit India Sundays on Cycle features a special group of participants, with previous editions including army personnel, postmen, and wellness experts. This week, corporate India stepped up to participate in the initiative. Vidushpat Singhania, Treasurer of Sportscom, CII, praised the movement, saying, “I congratulate the Honourable Sports Minister for launching this initiative. A healthy India is a more successful India, as good health directly contributes to higher productivity and a stronger GDP. As an industry body, we are committed to encouraging more corporates to join Fit India Sundays on Cycle and support this vital movement.”

Olympian Arjun Lal Jat also expressed his appreciation for the campaign, stating, “The enthusiasm of the participants is great, and as an athlete, I am happy to see so many people dedicating their Sunday mornings to fitness. Staying fit is not an option—it is a necessity, and the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative is an excellent motivation for people to begin their fitness journey.”

In Guwahati, doctors from the Indian Medical Association joined the cycling event at the SAI National Centre of Excellence, with over 300 medical professionals riding together to promote the importance of fitness.

Over the past several weeks, Fit India Sundays on Cycle has been successfully held across 4,200 locations in India, with 1,200 venues participating in today’s event alone. The initiative continues to expand, bringing together citizens from all walks of life to embrace a culture of fitness.
