Latur, Maharashtra – Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare, inaugurated the Vivekananda Cancer & Super Speciality Extension Hospital of Vivekanand Medical Foundation and Research Centre in Latur, Maharashtra, today. The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Shri Mohan Madhukar Rao Bhagwat, Sarsanghchalak, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

In his address, Dr. Mandaviya highlighted the importance of India’s traditional healthcare systems in the modern age, emphasizing their preventive and promotive approach, particularly in times of crisis such as the recent pandemic. He stressed the need for India to strengthen its own health model, aligned with Indian genetics and continental patterns of diseases relevant to its geography.

“Reflecting on our roots and traditional ways of living, inherent in lifestyle and food, can provide solutions to many health issues prevalent today,” Dr. Mandaviya remarked. He underscored the significance of India’s heritage in countering and treating various illnesses, emphasizing the role of traditional systems of living and food in mitigating alarming changes in healthcare scenarios, including the rise in cancer and mental health patients.

Dr. Mandaviya praised the Indian government’s commitment to fostering equality in healthcare services, striving to make them affordable and accessible through various initiatives aimed at last-mile delivery. He appreciated the dedication of Indian healthcare professionals, rooted in the country’s age-old culture, which is now recognized globally.

“The COVID crisis showcased India’s strengths in the medical and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as its values of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’,” Dr. Mandaviya noted. He reiterated India’s commitment to creating a people-centric, value-based healthcare system, emphasizing that health is perceived as a service rather than commerce in Indian culture.

Highlighting India’s contribution to global health services, Dr. Mandaviya mentioned that three out of ten medical research professionals abroad are Indians. He emphasized India’s role in extending medical and healthcare services beyond its borders, aiming to ensure healthcare reaches all within the nation.

“Our goal is to work holistically in the health sector, integrating preventive healthcare with modern medical facilities, and leading initiatives to ensure healthcare reaches every corner of the nation,” Dr. Mandaviya concluded.

The inauguration of the Vivekananda Cancer & Super Speciality Extension Hospital marks another step forward in India’s endeavor to provide quality healthcare services to its citizens, rooted in its rich cultural heritage and commitment to serving humanity.
