Lucknow, May 15, 2025:
A violent incident late Monday night at the Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences in Sarai Shahzadi, Lucknow, has left two junior doctors injured and hospital property damaged, raising fresh concerns over the safety of healthcare workers in India.

According to reports, a group of approximately 20 to 25 attendants of a patient, Ravi Kant, allegedly assaulted two junior doctors and other hospital staff in the emergency ward following the patient’s death around 10:15 pm on May 13. The agitated relatives reportedly vandalised the casualty room and damaged medical equipment, including a trolley.

The incident came to public attention after medical influencer Dr. Dheeraj Maheshwari (@autopsy_surgeon on X, formerly Twitter) shared the hospital’s official complaint letter and expressed alarm over the increasing violence faced by doctors.

The two junior residents injured in the attack have been identified as Dr. Robin Chatterjee and Dr. Shubham Jagdale. Both are currently receiving medical treatment for their injuries.

Dr. Vinod Sharma Bagra, National President of the All India MBBS Doctors Association (AIMDA), voiced his concern, stating, “The recurring incidents of violence against doctors are becoming more concerning. How are doctors supposed to do their work properly when we are constantly threatened?”

Violence against medical professionals has been a recurring issue across the country, with the medical community repeatedly urging authorities for stronger legal protection and enhanced hospital security.

Dr. Shailesh Yadav, Principal of the institute, has submitted a detailed complaint to Banthra Police Station, requesting urgent action. As of now, no arrests have been confirmed, and the investigation is ongoing.
