Shimla, January 6, 2025: In a landmark step towards revolutionizing healthcare services, the Himachal Pradesh government has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to bolster medical facilities in the state. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced an investment of Rs 85 crore for the procurement of advanced 3T MRI machines at three key medical institutions: IGMC Shimla, Tanda Medical College, and Nerchowk Medical College. This major development aims to enhance diagnostic accuracy and elevate patient care standards across the state.

The 3T MRI machines, renowned for their superior imaging capabilities, are expected to significantly improve the quality of diagnoses, facilitating better medical outcomes. CM Sukhu highlighted that precision diagnostics play a critical role in providing effective treatment and ensuring superior care for the people of Himachal Pradesh.

In addition to this, the state government plans to allocate a staggering Rs 1,500 crore to procure modern medical equipment for various government healthcare institutions. This strategic investment is part of a broader effort to address the gaps in the state’s healthcare services, which have forced nearly 9.5 lakh residents to seek treatment outside the state annually. The exodus of patients has resulted in a notable loss of Rs 1,350 crore to the state’s GDP, further emphasizing the urgent need for improvement.

Sukhu took the opportunity to criticize the previous BJP-led administration for its failure to adequately address the healthcare sector, leaving government-run hospitals with inadequate resources. He stated that under the Congress government, there would be a concerted effort to overhaul the healthcare system, ensuring that government hospitals are well-equipped to provide top-quality medical services. This includes plans to equip Community Health Centers (CHCs) with essential diagnostic tools and upgrade the infrastructure of hospitals to ensure they can deliver effective healthcare solutions.

The announcement has been met with widespread support from healthcare professionals and the general public, who have long awaited improvements in the state’s healthcare infrastructure. With these bold steps, the Himachal Pradesh government is setting the stage for a healthier, more self-reliant state, where residents no longer need to rely on expensive out-of-state medical care.

As the government continues to prioritize healthcare reforms, this initiative marks the beginning of a new era for medical services in Himachal Pradesh, one focused on accessibility, quality, and the well-being of its people.
