Police Probe Online Bakery as Family Seeks Justice Following the Heartbreaking Incident
What should have been a joyous occasion turned into a nightmare for a family in Patiala, as a 10-year-old girl tragically lost her life a day after indulging in her birthday celebrations. The incident, which unfolded after the consumption of a birthday cake ordered online, has prompted a thorough investigation by local authorities amid allegations of negligence and food poisoning.
According to reports from the Patiala police, a case under Sections 273 and 304-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered following a complaint lodged by the family of the deceased girl. The complaint alleges that the young girl succumbed to illness after consuming the birthday cake, which was also responsible for causing illness in other family members.
“We are awaiting the viscera report to determine the exact cause of death,” stated a senior police officer, highlighting the seriousness of the investigation. The case has been registered against the owner of the bakery responsible for supplying the cake, citing negligence and the supply of potentially poisonous food.
The tragic incident unfolded on March 24, when the family ordered the cake online for the birthday celebrations. As festivities ensued, the health of family members began to deteriorate, prompting immediate medical attention. Despite efforts to mitigate the effects of the illness, the young girl tragically passed away, leaving the family in mourning.
While the identity of the bakery remains undisclosed, the family of the victim is calling for a thorough investigation into the operations and quality standards of the bakery in question. Speaking to the media, the grandfather of the deceased recounted the harrowing events, emphasizing the sudden onset of illness within the family following the consumption of the cake.
“At around 11 p.m., the whole family fell ill. The two younger daughters started vomiting. There were five people at home at that time. While the youngest daughter’s life was saved as she vomited the cake, we lost the other girl,” he revealed.
Adding to the complexity of the investigation, discrepancies have emerged regarding the bakery’s identity and location. Despite references to a bakery named ‘Cake Kanha,’ investigations have failed to locate such an establishment at the registered address in Patiala. Suspicions arise that the bakery may operate as a cloud kitchen, further complicating efforts to trace its origins.
Moreover, receipts from food delivery app Zomato suggest billing originating from Amritsar, rather than Patiala, raising questions about the bakery’s operational scope. However, the authenticity of these receipts remains unverified by the Indian Asian News Service (IANS).
As authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, the community mourns the loss of a young life and demands answers. With investigations ongoing, the pursuit of justice remains paramount as the family seeks closure in the wake of their devastating loss.
