New Delhi, July 4 — The integration of traditional medicine into India’s national health policy is essential for achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and meeting global health goals, according to senior officials from the Ministry of Ayush. Speaking at the third ASSOCHAM conference on beauty, wellness, and traditional medicine, Dr. Kashinath Samagandi, Director of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, emphasized that the country’s health future lies in the synergy between traditional systems and modern healthcare frameworks.
“Holistic health is a fundamental right and to truly achieve it, India must integrate traditional systems into the core of its healthcare framework,” Dr. Samagandi stated, highlighting the need for a comprehensive approach that blends age-old practices with contemporary medical policy and practice.
The conference, which convened industry leaders, policymakers, and wellness experts, focused on the broader definition of health and beauty. Dr. Blossom Kochhar, Co-Chairperson of the ASSOCHAM National Wellness Council, remarked, “Beauty and wellness are not just about appearance; they are a reflection of balance, harmony, and inner well-being. By aligning nature, science, and self-care, we don’t just enhance how we look, we elevate how we feel and live”.
Suresh Garg, CMD of Zeon Lifesciences, further stressed the importance of collaboration among industry, academia, and government to ensure safe, high-quality solutions that foster global leadership and positively impact millions of lives.
The event underscored the growing consensus that traditional medicine and holistic wellness are not only cultural assets but also strategic tools for public health, capable of contributing to national and international health targets.
