Recently, the National Medical Commission’s Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) made an announcement regarding their decision to involve faculty members from medical colleges as assessors for conducting inspections in the upcoming academic year of 2024-2025. The Apex Medical Commission, referencing their plan to conduct surprise inspections at various medical colleges, stated that to preserve the element of surprise, assessors will receive travel details 48 hours before the inspection, potentially necessitating travel within 24 hours of notification.
In light of this, the Apex Medical Commission urged medical colleges to support faculty members engaged in this role by granting them leave for their travel days. Through a notice issued on November 23, 2023, MARB-NMC highlighted their initiative to commence inspections for the academic year 2024-2025, employing faculty from different medical colleges as Assessors for this purpose. Emphasizing the significance of these inspections in maintaining and improving the quality of medical education in India, they underscored the need for surprise inspections and the logistical details involved for the Assessors.
The Commission requested cooperation from medical colleges to facilitate a smooth inspection process by accommodating the travel needs of the faculty engaged in this activity. They expressed gratitude for the medical fraternity’s support in enhancing India’s medical education system.
Additionally, MARB recently announced the use of a ‘Robust Randomization Software’ by the NMC Board to select individuals who will assess medical colleges, aiming to reduce human intervention. These guidelines are set to be implemented in the upcoming academic year of 2024-2025. NMC outlined the use of this software for determining assessment dates and selecting assessors, along with discussing the assessors’ code of conduct and the criteria for their selection during the assessment process.
