The Tamil Nadu Selection Committee has released the much-awaited merit list for MBBS and BDS admissions, with a record 72,743 applications received this year — an increase of 29,680 over last year. Health Minister Ma Subramanian unveiled the list on Friday, July 25, and announced that both offline and online counselling will commence on July 30.
Offline counselling for special categories — including sportspersons, children of ex-servicemen, persons with benchmark disabilities, and those under the 7.5% government school reservation — will be hosted at the Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in the Omandurar Government Estate. Simultaneously, online counselling for the general category will also begin.

Notably, this year’s intake saw a reduction of 50 MBBS seats at PSP Medical College, setting the overall total for MBBS and BDS seats in Tamil Nadu at 11,850.

The information reveals a trend: a significant portion of eligible candidates are repeat NEET aspirants. In the government quota, 15,119 qualified on their second attempt, 12,354 on their first, and 8,381 on their third. The 7.5% category saw 1,524 succeed on their second, 1,259 on their third, and 859 on their first try. For the management quota, 11,182 cleared NEET in their second attempt, compared to 10,027 on their first.
Authorities cancelled 25 applications following the detection of forged documents, including falsified community, nativity, birth, and NRI embassy certificates.
Health Secretary P Senthil Kumar and Director of Medical Education (FAC) E Theranirajan attended the announcement, during which merit lists for allied healthcare courses were also released.
