New Delhi, May 11, 2025:
A 31-year-old ENT surgeon from Tamil Nadu, Dr. Parmeswaran, who was critically injured in a recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is now reported to be in stable condition after being shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the AIIMS Trauma Centre in New Delhi, according to hospital authorities.

The Incident

Dr. Parmeswaran and his wife, Dr. Nayanthara Aravind, both residents of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, were vacationing in the scenic town of Pahalgam when violence erupted in the region. During the attack, Dr. Parmeswaran sustained gunshot wounds to his neck and stomach and also suffered a fractured right arm. His wife, Dr. Nayanthara, played a crucial role in seeking immediate help, assisting him to safety and coordinating with local police and residents to ensure he received prompt medical attention.

Medical Response and Recovery

Following the attack, Dr. Parmeswaran underwent multiple emergency surgeries at Anantnag Medical College in Jammu & Kashmir. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi on April 22 for advanced critical care. Initially placed on ventilatory support and under close observation in the ICU, Dr. Parmeswaran has since shown significant improvement.

Hospital sources confirmed that he is now undergoing physiotherapy and post-operative care at the AIIMS Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre. Medical staff have been focusing on wound management and helping him regain mobility, particularly in his injured arm. “He is a young person, and good fitness and luck helped him survive,” a doctor at AIIMS told the Indian Express.

Family Support

The incident has been a source of immense stress for both Dr. Parmeswaran’s family and his wife. Lokmanya Tilak, Dr. Nayanthara’s maternal uncle, expressed gratitude for the support received from locals and the police, emphasizing the couple’s resilience during the ordeal.

Ongoing Care

Dr. Parmeswaran continues to receive physiotherapy and post-operative support as he works towards a full recovery. His case has drawn attention to the risks faced by civilians and tourists in conflict-prone areas and the importance of swift medical intervention.
