Chamarajanagar, Karnataka, July 27, 2025 — In a remarkable turn of events, a 25-year-old tribal woman from Solagar Dhoddi in the Thalavadi Hills, Tamil Nadu, delivered a healthy baby boy at the District Government Hospital in Chamarajanagar, Karnataka, after being missing for 10 days.
The woman, identified as Shevanthi, reportedly vanished after refusing hospital admission earlier this month. Her disappearance prompted concern in her community and led to a determined search effort by local activists and authorities. During this period, her whereabouts remained unknown.
Following labour pains that began around 10 p.m. on Friday, Shevanthi was first taken to the Government Hospital in Thalavadi but was soon referred to Chamarajanagar due to medical requirements. She successfully gave birth in the early hours of Saturday, with both mother and child reported to be in good health.
The positive outcome has been credited in part to the persistent counselling and efforts of S. Kannaiyan, president of the Thalavadi Farmers’ Foundation, who played a pivotal role in encouraging Shevanthi to return home and seek medical care. His intervention, alongside the support of local authorities, ensured that Shevanthi received timely treatment.
This incident has also highlighted issues of accessibility to healthcare and the ongoing need for support among tribal communities in remote regions.
