Durg, Chhattisgarh – The swine flu outbreak in Durg district claimed its fourth victim on Tuesday, with the latest death reported from Bhilai’s Chouhan Green Valley housing society. This brings the total number of fatalities in the district to four, amidst a growing concern over the spread of the H1N1 virus.
In the past 22 days, Durg has witnessed 23 confirmed cases of swine flu. Currently, 13 patients are undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in Durg and Raipur, while six have recovered from the illness. The rapid escalation of cases has prompted local health authorities to intensify their efforts to contain the virus.
In response to the situation, Durg Collector Richa Prakash Choudhary issued an advisory to all hospitals in the district, urging them to take stringent measures to curb the spread of the virus. Hospitals have been instructed to conduct thorough examinations of family members and neighbors of those infected with the H1N1 virus. This proactive approach aims to identify and isolate potential new cases before they can spread further.
Health officials are conducting health check-ups in areas where new swine flu cases have been detected, with medicines being distributed to residents as a preventive measure. To accommodate the increasing number of patients, 10 beds have been reserved at the District Hospital, and an additional 30 beds have been made available at Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College in Durg specifically for swine flu cases.
Public health advisories have also been issued to the residents of Durg, urging them to take preventive actions such as covering their mouths and noses while coughing or sneezing and washing their hands frequently with soap and water or using alcohol-based sanitizers. The Health Department has emphasized the importance of seeking medical attention immediately if flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, runny nose, congestion, diarrhea, chills, or vomiting, are observed.
As the district grapples with this public health challenge, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with a focus on preventing further fatalities and controlling the spread of the virus.
