Delhi: Health authorities are investigating a suspected case of Mpox (monkeypox) in a young male patient who recently returned from a country experiencing an outbreak of the viral disease. The patient, whose identity is being kept confidential, has been placed in isolation at a designated hospital. According to medical officials, his condition is currently stable.

The patient was identified shortly after arriving in the country, following a routine screening. Samples have been collected and sent for laboratory testing to confirm whether the patient has contracted Mpox. Results are expected in the coming days. Authorities are following established public health protocols to manage the case and ensure there is no wider risk to the community.

“The situation is being handled in line with the country’s Mpox management guidelines. We have a comprehensive system in place for monitoring and managing such cases, and there is no cause for public concern at this time,” said a spokesperson from the Ministry of Health.

Health officials have also initiated contact tracing to identify individuals who may have been in close contact with the patient. This process is crucial to assessing the potential impact of the case within the country. Those identified as contacts will be monitored for symptoms and offered appropriate medical advice.

This development aligns with a prior risk assessment conducted by the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which had indicated the likelihood of sporadic cases due to international travel. “We anticipated isolated cases of Mpox, given the global situation, and the country is fully prepared to manage them,” the NCDC noted in a recent statement.

The NCDC has reiterated that the public need not be alarmed, emphasizing that Mpox is typically a self-limiting disease with a low fatality rate. The country has robust measures in place to manage and mitigate any potential health risks. Public health authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

The public is advised to remain vigilant but not fearful, as all necessary precautions are being taken to prevent any further spread of the virus. Public health experts have also urged individuals to seek medical advice if they experience symptoms such as fever, rash, or swollen lymph nodes, particularly if they have recently traveled to countries with confirmed Mpox transmission.

The Ministry of Health has reassured citizens that they are fully equipped to handle such cases, and all efforts are being made to contain and control the situation.
