Pune has reported a surge in suspected cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder. Doctors are investigating a possible link to recent bacterial or viral infections.
22 Cases Reported, Primarily from Sinhagad Road
A total of 22 suspected GBS cases have been reported in Pune, with the majority coming from the Sinhagad Road area. Several patients have been admitted to intensive care units (ICUs) at hospitals like Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital and Poona Hospital.
Symptoms and Treatment
Doctors have observed symptoms such as loose motions, fever, and limb weakness in the patients. Initial treatment involves intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) to address the autoimmune response.
Blood Samples Sent for Analysis
Blood samples from six patients have been sent to the ICMR-NIV for analysis to determine the cause of the outbreak. Health officials are working to identify the specific bacterial or viral infection that may be triggering the GBS cases.
Further Developments Expected
The situation is being closely monitored by health authorities. More information on the cause of the outbreak and the specific treatment plan is expected as investigations continue.
