The Supreme Court of India has scheduled a hearing for August 3, 2025, to address multiple petitions demanding greater transparency in the evaluation process of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for Postgraduate (NEET-PG) examinations. The decision was made on July 14 by a bench comprising Justices K Vinod Chandran and NV Anjaria, following brief proceedings on the matter.

The petitions, including one filed by Advocate Tanvi Dubey, challenge the opaqueness in the current evaluation system managed by the National Board of Examinations (NBE). Petitioners have called for the release of question papers and answer keys to candidates, disclosure of both correct and incorrect questions as assessed, and the establishment of a mechanism for revaluation or rechecking in case of discrepancies in scores. They have also requested that candidates be allowed to challenge disputed questions or answers and have demanded transparent evaluation protocols for both current and future NEET-PG exams.

The lack of transparency, according to the pleas, undermines the credibility of the NEET-PG examination and raises concerns about the rights of candidates. The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has also filed a writ petition under Article 32, asserting that the NBE’s refusal to provide answer sheets prevents candidates from cross-checking their scores.

This hearing follows a prior Supreme Court order from May 30, which directed the NBE not to conduct the NEET-PG 2025 exam in two shifts and allowed the exam to be rescheduled for August 3. The issue of non-disclosure of answer papers and answer keys was deferred and will now be addressed after the examination.

The Supreme Court has recently issued directions to curb seat-blocking in NEET-PG counselling and has called for the publication of raw scores, answer keys, and normalization formulae, signaling a broader push for transparency in medical entrance examinations.
