New Delhi – A recent study has brought to light the alarming reality of stillbirths across India, revealing a national rate of more than six stillbirths per 1000 deliveries. The findings point to a significant disparity in outcomes, with northern and central Indian states identified as major hotspots for stillbirths.

The data indicates that certain states are disproportionately affected, with Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan recording the highest rates. The study also correlates these high rates with maternal health issues, specifically noting a higher incidence of stillbirths in districts where pregnant women are anemic and underweight. These two factors are known to significantly increase the risk of adverse birth outcomes.

The high prevalence of stillbirths in these regions underscores an urgent need for targeted health interventions. Experts suggest a focus on improving maternal nutrition and healthcare access, particularly for expectant mothers in the most vulnerable areas.
