Beverly Hills, CA – April 24, 2025 – Actress Selma Blair, known for her candidness about living with multiple sclerosis (MS), has shared uplifting news about her health. Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at The Daily Front Row’s 9th Annual Fashion Los Angeles Awards, Blair revealed that she is now “truly relapse-free” from MS symptoms and feeling better than she has in years.
Blair, 55, first publicly disclosed her MS diagnosis in 2018 and has since been open about her journey with the chronic illness. At the star-studded event held at the Beverly Hills Hotel, she expressed her excitement about her renewed energy and stamina. “I am doing amazingly well. I’ve been feeling great for about a year,” Blair said. “But I am finally well enough to really, genuinely … I always try and feel my best, but now that I actually have stamina and energy and getting out and going out isn’t so scary.”
Looking Ahead with New Dreams and Goals
The actress reflected on how her improved health has shifted her perspective on the future. “It’s funny, I haven’t spent enough time having dreams. And now it’s like, what are my dreams?” she mused. She explained that since her diagnosis, fatigue and illness had dominated her life to the point where she was mostly focused on just getting through each day.
Now, with her symptoms under better control, Blair is contemplating new ambitions. “My thoughts about the future are much more career-oriented at the moment,” she said. The actress expressed a strong desire to return to acting, mentioning that she has several movie projects in the pipeline.
Beyond her acting career, Blair is also passionate about advocacy. She emphasized the importance of supporting people with chronic illnesses and exploring what a fulfilling life looks like after a diagnosis. “How do we give ourselves a new life force?” she asked.
Blair, who published her memoir Mean Baby: A Memoir of Growing Up in 2022, also revealed plans to write a young adult fantasy book inspired by classics like The Secret Garden.
Honoring a Fashion Icon
At the awards ceremony, Blair presented designer Betsey Johnson with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Wearing archival Betsey Johnson pieces, she fondly recalled how the designer was a childhood icon and a symbol of accessible couture for young people. “Betsey was always a good time,” Blair said, sharing memories of doing cartwheels down the runway and feeling a deep connection to Johnson’s playful spirit.
Disclaimer:
A representative for Selma Blair clarified that the actress misspoke when she referred to being “in remission” from MS. This article has been updated to reflect that she is “truly relapse-free,” which indicates a period without new symptoms or relapses but does not imply a cure or complete remission of the disease. Multiple sclerosis is a chronic condition with varying courses, and individual experiences may differ. Readers are encouraged to consult medical professionals for personalized information about MS.
