Rohtak, Haryana:
The ongoing investigation into the MBBS exam scam at Pandit BD Sharma University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), has taken a significant turn, with authorities now scrutinizing students from four consecutive batches of a private medical college. According to police sources, the probe has revealed a complex network of academic fraud involving students from the 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 batches.

Key Revelations in the Scam

During police interrogation, one of the main accused disclosed that deals were struck with students-directly or via intermediaries-to secure favorable exam results. Notably, the manipulation involved as many as 34 subjects across the 2021 to 2023 batches, though successful tampering was confirmed in 18 subjects.

The investigation uncovered that ten students from the 2021 batch and four from the 2022 batch allegedly paid Rs 2 lakh per subject through middlemen. This “direct system” reportedly involved altering the prize list just before the results were declared, ensuring select students passed their exams.

Tampering with Answer Sheets

Further deepening the scandal, officials revealed that supplementary exam answer sheets of six students from the 2020 batch and five from the 2021 batch were rewritten using erasable pens. These answer sheets were smuggled out on the day of the exam, rechecked at the home of a university employee, and then secretly resubmitted to the university.

One student from the 2020 batch is alleged to have passed a subject after paying Rs 2 lakh to a class IV employee in the university’s confidentiality branch. Additionally, three students from the 2021 batch and two from the 2022 batch reportedly paid similar amounts through fellow students acting as middlemen, all benefiting from the “direct system” of result manipulation.

University and Police Response

Authorities at UHSR have stated they are cooperating fully with the investigation and have pledged to take strict action against anyone found guilty. The police continue to interrogate suspects and review exam records, with further arrests and disciplinary actions anticipated as the probe progresses.

Implications for Medical Education

This scam has raised serious concerns about the integrity of medical education and examination processes in Haryana. Stakeholders are calling for stricter oversight and reforms to prevent such incidents in the future.
