Chandigarh, Aug 4, 2025:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced the launch of 200 new Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state, a move that will raise the total number of these government-run healthcare centers to 1,081. The announcement was made as the government also rolled out a new WhatsApp chatbot service aimed at providing seamless, digital health solutions for citizens.
Mann declared the expansion as a historic step toward accessible and quality healthcare for all Punjabis. “It is a historic day in the healthcare sector of Punjab as a total of 881 Aam Aadmi Clinics across the state have been connected to a WhatsApp chatbot,” Mann said. According to him, these clinics already cater to nearly 70,000 patients daily.
Digital Push for Healthcare Services
The newly introduced WhatsApp chatbot will enable patients to receive prescription slips, diagnostic test reports, and upcoming consultation reminders directly on their smartphones. Mann highlighted that with around 90% of the state’s population owning smartphones, these digital initiatives are set to enhance patient care and convenience. Patients can also share their health reports instantly with family members or consult other doctors, with all records securely stored in a digital database.
The chatbot will provide regular updates and guidance for special groups, including elderly people with diabetes or hypertension, pregnant women, and newborns. “This technology will eliminate the need for patients to physically store prescriptions or medications, as they can access the information anytime on the messaging platform,” Mann said.
Landmark Health Insurance and Medical Education Initiatives
Punjab has become the first Indian state to implement the ‘Mukhya Mantri Sehat Yojana’, under which families can avail up to ₹10 lakh in free medical treatment. Mann emphasized that these reforms were driven by the need to prevent medical debts among families, particularly in villages where treatment costs previously discouraged people from seeking care.
Furthering its commitment, the state government has approved the establishment of four new medical colleges in Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Sangrur, and Nawanshahr. The move is expected to bolster Punjab’s emergence as a medical hub, with Mann claiming that growing trust in public institutions has stemmed from a string of “pro-people” decisions.
Other Reforms Highlighted
Chief Minister Mann also cited the success of the Road Safety Force, reporting a 48% reduction in road accident fatalities since its formation, and noted that substantial numbers of students from government schools have cleared high-level entrance exams such as JEE Advanced and NEET.
