Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir – The ongoing investigation into the mysterious deaths of seven individuals in Badhaal village, located in Rajouri district, has yet to provide definitive answers. Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakeena Masood, who visited the affected area on December 15, reassured villagers of stability and promised healthcare upgrades to address the crisis.
The fatalities, which took place on December 8 and 12, involved members of two families: a father and his four children, along with two siblings from another household. Initial suspicions of food poisoning have since shifted towards a potential viral infection as the cause.
Minister Masood, accompanied by senior health officials, confirmed that all 28 villagers affected, including those who were hospitalized, are now in stable condition. “We have mobilized resources, conducted comprehensive household screenings, and ensured the availability of medicines to prevent further spread,” she stated.
To aid the investigation, expert teams from AIIMS Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, and the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Delhi have been deployed. While water samples tested negative for contamination, results from food samples are still pending.
The minister highlighted the state’s proactive measures, including upgrading healthcare facilities and intensifying health surveillance in the region. Villagers were assured of continued support and follow-up from the health department.
The mysterious nature of the deaths has raised concerns among residents, but Minister Masood expressed confidence in the efforts of the expert teams to identify the root cause. She urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with health authorities in ongoing assessments.
The investigation continues as authorities strive to bring closure to the community and prevent similar incidents in the future.
