Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called upon all Indian states to expedite the development of health infrastructure, placing particular emphasis on aspirational districts as well as remote, tribal, and border areas. This directive came during a meeting to review ongoing projects under the Prime Minister-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
During the session, Modi stressed the importance of ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for the poor, marginalized, and underserved populations. He highlighted the urgent need for sustained efforts to bridge existing gaps in critical health services, especially in regions that have historically faced developmental challenges.
The PM-ABHIM initiative, launched on February 1, 2021, is backed by a substantial outlay of approximately ₹64,180 crore spread over six years, concluding in the financial year 2025-26. The scheme aims to strengthen the capacities of health systems and institutions across all levels of care—primary, secondary, and tertiary. Additionally, it seeks to prepare health systems to respond effectively to current and future pandemics and disasters.
Modi’s call to action underscores the government’s commitment to building a robust and inclusive healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that no community is left behind in the nation’s health journey.
