KITCHENER, ON (April 29, 2025) – Public health officials are warning concertgoers of a potential measles exposure at the recent Bachman-Turner Overdrive concert held at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium. The Region of Waterloo Public Health issued a statement Monday advising anyone who attended the event on Thursday, April 24, between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m., to be vigilant for symptoms of the highly contagious virus.

What Happened?

According to officials, a person infected with measles was present at the concert, raising concerns about possible transmission among attendees. Measles spreads easily through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or even breathes, making large gatherings particularly susceptible to outbreaks.

What Are the Symptoms?

Measles symptoms typically develop seven to 21 days after exposure. Health experts urge those who attended the concert to monitor themselves for:

  • Fever

  • Runny nose

  • Cough

  • Red, watery eyes

  • Small white spots inside the mouth and throat

  • Red, blotchy rash

Other complications can include diarrhea, ear infections, and pneumonia. In severe cases, measles can cause brain inflammation or even death.

What Should You Do?

Anyone who suspects they may have contracted measles is advised to:

  • Stay home and avoid contact with others to prevent further spread.

  • If medical attention is needed, call ahead to your healthcare provider so they can take precautions to protect others.

The Region of Waterloo Public Health continues to monitor the situation and encourages residents to ensure their vaccinations are up to date.
