New Delhi, June 10, 2025:
India’s flagship nutrition mission, Poshan Abhiyaan, has made remarkable progress in combating malnutrition and improving nutrition outcomes, according to Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road, Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra. Speaking at a recent event in the national capital, Malhotra highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing India’s longstanding malnutrition challenges.

Launched in 2018 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Poshan Abhiyaan has focused on promoting healthy growth and development, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. “Poshan Abhiyaan has made significant strides in improving nutrition outcomes in India,” said Malhotra, emphasizing the campaign’s wide-reaching impact.

Nationwide Movement and Digital Innovation

A key feature of the programme has been its ability to foster a nationwide “Jan Andolan” (people’s movement), catalyzing nutrition-related behavioral change and encouraging positive feeding and healthcare practices at the grassroots level. The Minister praised the Poshan Tracker App, a digital tool that enables real-time monitoring of nutrition services, ensuring timely interventions and better tracking of progress.

Mission Poshan 2.0, launched in 2021 with a budget of Rs 1.81 lakh crore for the period 2021-26, integrates nutrition, health, and community efforts. The initiative leverages digital solutions such as the award-winning Poshan Tracker, which received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2024.

Transparency and Accountability

According to government data, as of March 2025, 99.02% of beneficiaries under the programme are Aadhaar-verified, and a face authentication module has been introduced to ensure transparency in the distribution of take-home rations. These measures are designed to minimize leakages and ensure that nutritional support reaches those who need it most.

Focus on Maternal and Child Nutrition

Malhotra also underscored the importance of adequate nutrition for pregnant women and lactating mothers, noting its crucial role in healthy child development and in preventing complications during childbirth. “By prioritizing nutrition, India can build a healthier, more productive, and prosperous nation, achieving its vision of a Viksit Bharat,” he added.

Looking Ahead

With its comprehensive approach and focus on digital innovation, Poshan Abhiyaan continues to drive meaningful change in India’s fight against malnutrition. The government remains committed to scaling up these efforts and ensuring that every child and mother receives the nutrition they need for a healthy future.
