Alwar, Rajasthan — A shocking incident has come to light at the ESIC Medical College in Alwar, Rajasthan, where a 32-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a nursing staffer inside the hospital’s surgical medical ICU earlier this week. The case has prompted swift police action and an internal hospital investigation.

Details of the Incident

The woman had been admitted to the hospital on June 2 for a tubectomy procedure. Following her surgery on June 4, she was transferred to the ICU for post-operative care. According to the complaint filed by her husband, he was asked by a security guard to wait outside the ICU late at night. Between 1:30 am and 2:30 am, the guard and a male staff member informed him that his wife was experiencing side effects from an injection and needed his assistance. After helping her lie down, he was again asked to leave the ICU.

The following day, after regaining consciousness, the woman informed her husband that a male staffer had drawn the curtains around her bed and sexually assaulted her during the night. The husband immediately reported the incident to the police, leading to the registration of an FIR.

Hospital and Police Response

Upon learning of the incident, the woman informed her attending doctor, Dr. Deepika, who confronted the accused, Subhash Ghithala (30), in the presence of witnesses. According to hospital sources, Ghithala confessed to the crime during this interaction. He has since been barred from entering the hospital premises.

The hospital administration has issued notices to the on-duty doctor and other staff members, seeking their written responses regarding the incident. A committee has been formed to conduct a thorough inquiry, with findings expected by Saturday evening.

SHO Ajit Badsara confirmed that Subhash Ghithala has been booked for molestation and rape under relevant sections of the law.

Community and Institutional Response

The incident has sparked outrage and concern among the local community and hospital staff, raising serious questions about patient safety and security within healthcare facilities. Hospital authorities have assured that strict action will be taken based on the inquiry’s findings and that measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.
