Gondia, Maharashtra – April 7, 2025: A wedding celebration turned into a medical emergency in Maharashtra’s Gondia district over the weekend, after more than 50 attendees, including several children, fell ill from suspected food poisoning.
The incident occurred following a wedding feast held in Babai village, Goregaon tehsil, on Saturday. According to officials reporting on Sunday, numerous guests began experiencing symptoms such as stomachache, vomiting, and diarrhea after consuming the food served at the event.
Emergency services and health authorities responded promptly. Affected individuals were transported to various local healthcare facilities for treatment, including the rural hospital and primary health center in Goregaon tehsil, as well as hospitals in Gondia town.
Medical Officer Dr. P K Patle confirmed the cases and the common symptoms among those who attended the wedding. While initial reports indicated that four patients had been treated and discharged, many others remained under medical observation as their conditions were being stabilized.
To manage the situation effectively and monitor the health of the residents, the local health department has established a medical camp within Babai village. Authorities have stated that the situation is currently under control, with ongoing monitoring in place.
