LEH, LADAKH — In a major health scare on the set of the highly anticipated Bollywood film “Dhurandhar”, around 120 crew members were rushed to Sajal Narbu Memorial (SNM) Hospital in Leh on Sunday evening, after displaying symptoms of severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and headaches. Medical officials quickly identified the incident as a case of mass food poisoning, disrupting the ongoing film production.
According to hospital authorities, the affected crew, none of whom are local residents, began experiencing symptoms shortly after dinner. Emergency services were mobilised, and reinforcement from local police was required to manage the overcrowded wards and prevent panic among patients and the remaining crew. With approximately 600 individuals having been served meals at the location that evening, doctors said a substantial public health response was critical to handle the sudden influx of patients.
Officials report that food samples have been collected from the shooting site for detailed laboratory analysis to determine the exact source and cause of contamination. As a preventative measure, authorities are closely monitoring the remaining crew and have paused production activities until the environment is declared safe.
A senior doctor at SNM Hospital commented, “We managed the patient rush effectively. Most affected individuals are now stable and have been discharged after prompt treatment.” Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported, and the lead cast—including Ranveer Singh and director Aditya Dhar—are understood to be unharmed.
This incident has cast a shadow over “Dhurandhar”, a film with a star-studded cast that includes Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal. Despite the disruption, producers remain hopeful about completing the filming schedule as planned, with the movie still aiming for a December 5, 2025, theatrical release.
Authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to prevent a recurrence and to ensure crew safety. Investigations into the food supply chain and handling procedures are ongoing.
