Prayagraj: The ongoing Mahakumbh Mela in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj has witnessed a surge in the utilization of Ayush healthcare services, with over 1.21 lakh devotees availing free consultations and medicines from OPDs and clinics set up by the Ministry of Ayush.
These Ayush facilities, operating in collaboration with the National Ayush Mission, have become a major draw for pilgrims, offering a range of services to both domestic and international visitors. “The response has been overwhelmingly positive, with over 1.21 lakh devotees benefiting from these services,” the Ministry stated.
The Ayush team at Mahakumbh comprises 80 doctors across 20 OPDs, providing 24×7 medical services to address a wide range of common and chronic conditions. Daily therapeutic yoga sessions are also conducted by trainers from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY).
Foreign devotees are also actively utilizing Ayush services, including OPD consultations. These initiatives aim to not only provide healthcare but also educate devotees about advancements in Ayush systems of medicine, medicinal plants, and their potential benefits.
The National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) has set up a display showcasing medicinal plants and providing information about their uses and potential financial benefits for cultivation. Free saplings are also being distributed.
The Ayush team has also prioritized the health of the elderly, with free distribution of medicines including immunity boosters and calcium tablets. “As many as 45 per cent of the beneficiaries so far are members of the elderly population,” the Ministry said.
Raghunandan Prasad, a devotee from Sultanpur suffering from a skin ailment, expressed his gratitude for the Ayush camp, stating, “After taking medicines from the Ayush camp, my condition has gradually improved.”
The Mahakumbh Mela has thus become a platform for promoting Ayush healthcare and raising awareness about its benefits among the masses.
