New Delhi, February 15, 2025 — The National Medical Commission (NMC) has implemented stricter regulations concerning the interstate postings of MD/MS students participating in the District Residency Programme (DRP). Effective immediately, all such postings now require prior approval from the NMC.

The DRP, introduced to enhance medical education and strengthen district health systems, mandates that postgraduate medical students undergo a compulsory three-month rotation in district hospitals. This initiative aims to provide students with practical experience in diverse healthcare settings and to address the shortage of medical professionals in rural areas.

Previously, students had the flexibility to arrange their postings across different states. However, the recent directive necessitates that any interstate postings be approved by the NMC to ensure standardization and quality control. This move is expected to streamline the process and maintain uniformity in the training experience of postgraduate medical students.

The NMC has emphasized that this policy change is in line with its commitment to improving medical education and healthcare delivery across the country. By centralizing the approval process, the NMC aims to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the DRP more effectively.

Medical institutions and students are advised to adhere to the new guidelines and seek the necessary approvals for any interstate postings under the DRP. Failure to comply with these regulations may result in disciplinary actions and could affect the students’ eligibility to appear for final examinations.

For further information and detailed guidelines, medical colleges and students are encouraged to refer to the official communications issued by the NMC.
