New Delhi, May 3, 2025 – In a sweeping move to uphold the integrity of India’s medical entrance examinations, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken decisive disciplinary action against candidates and students implicated in the NEET-UG 2024 paper leak and related malpractices.

The NMC has ordered the immediate suspension of 26 MBBS students after they were found guilty of using unfair means during the NEET-UG 2024 examination. Additionally, the admissions of 14 students for the 2024-25 academic year have been cancelled for similar violations.

These measures follow an extensive investigation led by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which uncovered evidence of widespread malpractice during the pan-India medical entrance test. The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting NEET-UG, identified candidates involved in these irregularities and took further action:

  • 42 candidates have been debarred from appearing in NEET-UG for three years (2024, 2025, and 2026).

  • Nine additional candidates have been barred from the 2025 and 2026 sessions.

  • The candidature of 215 aspirants remains on hold pending further investigation.

A senior official stated, “Given the severity of these violations and their potential to undermine the credibility of the medical education system, the National Medical Commission has issued directives to the concerned medical colleges and institutions to immediately suspend the 26 MBBS students found to be complicit”.

The NMC reiterated its “zero-tolerance” policy toward academic fraud, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining transparency, accountability, and trust in the medical admissions process. The crackdown comes just a day before the NEET-UG 2025 exam, scheduled for May 4, signaling the Commission’s intent to deter future malpractices and restore faith in the examination system.

The NEET-UG exam is a crucial gateway for aspiring doctors across India, determining admission to undergraduate medical and dental programs nationwide. The recent actions by the NMC and NTA reflect growing concerns over the authenticity and fairness of the selection process, especially after last year’s controversy involving unusually high scores and allegations of paper leaks.

Authorities have assured strict monitoring and continued investigations, with further action expected as more findings emerge.

“The NMC’s crackdown signals a robust effort to ensure fairness and prevent malpractices in future examinations,” the Commission stated.
