New Delhi, June 10, 2025:
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued a public notice to all medical colleges across India, urging them to actively participate in the upcoming 10th International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations on June 21, 2025. This year’s theme, “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underscores the holistic benefits of yoga for both individual well-being and planetary health.

Nationwide Call to Action

The notice, released in coordination with the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and the Ministry of AYUSH, outlines the importance of Yoga as an integral part of comprehensive primary healthcare. The NMC has requested all medical colleges and institutions under its jurisdiction to observe the “Yoga Sangam” event on June 21. The aim is to promote awareness about yoga’s potential in improving overall health and to encourage its practice among students, faculty, and the broader community.

10th Anniversary of International Day of Yoga

This year marks a decade since the United Nations first recognized June 21 as International Day of Yoga. Since then, mass yoga demonstrations and group sessions have become a hallmark of the annual event, with the government highlighting yoga’s role in holistic health through initiatives at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) and other healthcare facilities.

Event Registration and Reporting

To ensure widespread participation and proper documentation, the government has set up a pre-event registration system on the Ministry of AYUSH’s Yoga Portal. Medical colleges are encouraged to register their events in advance, utilize official publicity materials, and share details, photographs, and the number of participants with the NMC by 11:00 AM on June 21 via a dedicated Google Form link.

Promoting Holistic Health

The NMC notice emphasizes that yoga is not just a physical exercise but a vital part of preventive healthcare, contributing to mental, emotional, and social well-being. Regular group sessions at healthcare centers and the annual IDY celebrations aim to embed yoga as a lifestyle practice for all citizens.
