Sydney, June 15, 2025 — Australian researchers have unveiled a new mobile application, ReNeuWell, designed to bolster wellbeing and resilience among adults by shifting the focus from merely managing distress to actively fostering mental flourishing. Developed by a team from NeuRA (Neuroscience Research Australia) and the University of New South Wales Sydney, the app offers a neuroscience-backed, personalized approach to mental health.
ReNeuWell stands out by providing users with a comprehensive assessment of their wellbeing across both subjective (hedonic) and psychological (eudaimonic) dimensions. The app evaluates factors such as composure, positivity, life satisfaction, self-worth, mastery, and achievements. This dual focus allows individuals to gain a deeper understanding of their mental health and identify areas for growth.
“The app is designed for anyone looking for ways to understand and boost their own level of mental wellbeing,” said Associate Professor Justine Gatt, highlighting its role in guiding users toward optimal mental health.
The application delivers a unique, personalized program of activities over four-week periods, incorporating evidence-based techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, self-compassion, and goal setting. These activities are tailored to the individual’s specific needs and are grounded in the COMPAS-W scale, which has been scientifically linked to brain function, genetics, cognitive performance, and physical health indicators.
Currently, a 12-week clinical trial is underway, with NeuRA recruiting at least 500 adult participants from the general public. Eligible participants receive free access to the app, committing to just 10 minutes of daily use and completing three short surveys. The trial aims to further validate the app’s effectiveness and gather user feedback for ongoing refinement.
ReNeuWell is the result of a collaboration between academic research and industry, funded by the Mindgardens Neuroscience Network and developed by Miroma Project Factory. For those not participating in the trial, the app is available for a one-time fee of AUD$24.99 on the Apple App Store in Australia.
