May 18, 2025 – The declaration of results for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2025 has been put on hold following orders from both the Madras High Court and the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. This development comes after multiple petitions were filed by students who alleged that power outages during the exam severely impacted their performance.

Power Outages Disrupt Exams

In Chennai, a group of 13 students from an exam centre in Avadi approached the Madras High Court, claiming that a power failure left them writing the exam in inadequate lighting conditions. According to the petitioners, no alternative arrangements were made to restore power during the examination, which they argue significantly hampered their ability to perform. The students reported that complaints submitted through the National Testing Agency (NTA) portal went unanswered.

The Madras High Court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for June 2, 2025, to further examine the case.

Similar Situation in Madhya Pradesh

Meanwhile, the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court has also imposed an interim stay on the result announcement. This action was taken while hearing a plea from a student who faced similar difficulties due to power disruptions. The court has issued notices to the NTA, the Central government, and the Madhya Pradesh West Zone Electricity Distribution Company, asking them to respond within four weeks.

Uncertainty for Candidates

The NEET-UG 2025 examination was conducted on May 4, 2025, from 2 pm to 5 pm at hundreds of centres across the country. With the result day now uncertain, lakhs of candidates are anxiously awaiting updates.

Authorities have advised candidates to monitor official channels for the latest information regarding the status of the NEET-UG 2025 results.
