The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2025 concluded on May 4, 2025, with over 20.8 lakh students appearing across more than 5,400 exam centres nationwide and 14 cities abroad. While the overall exam tested candidates on 180 questions from Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology, the Physics section stood out as exceptionally challenging for many aspirants.

Students and experts alike reported that the Physics paper was moderately difficult to tough, with a significant number of questions demanding conceptual clarity and extensive calculations. Many numerical problems were lengthy and time-consuming, making it difficult for students to complete the section within the allotted time. This led some candidates to leave questions unanswered to avoid negative marking, anticipating a lower cutoff this year compared to previous years.

Key topics with heavy weightage included Mechanics, Modern Physics, Electrostatics, and Current Electricity. However, the paper also featured tricky and unexpected questions from lesser-emphasized areas such as Semiconductor Devices and Communication Systems, testing both theoretical understanding and practical application. Experts emphasized that NCERT textbooks remained the backbone of preparation, but solving additional practice problems was crucial to tackle the tougher numerical questions effectively.

Students shared mixed reactions post-exam. While some found Biology relatively easy and on expected lines, the Physics section caught many off guard. For instance, Pawni Singh noted the unexpected difficulty in the Alternate Current questions, and another student mentioned that one minute per question was insufficient, leading to many blanks in Physics to avoid negative marking. Repeat candidate Neerja Arup described the paper as lengthy and tough compared to the previous year, which was easier but marred by malpractice issues1.

In response to concerns about exam integrity, the National Testing Agency (NTA) issued strong advisories against rumors of paper leaks and misinformation circulating on social media. The agency identified and took action against numerous Telegram channels and Instagram accounts spreading false claims. Enhanced security measures, including police collaboration, CCTV surveillance, and secure transportation of question papers, were implemented to ensure a fair examination process. The NTA urged candidates to rely solely on official communications and warned of strict penalties under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act for any malpractice.

With the Physics section proving to be the toughest hurdle, students are now awaiting results with cautious optimism, preparing to adapt their strategies for future attempts if necessary.
