The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has filed an application before the Supreme Court seeking approval to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2025 on August 3, 2025. This move follows the indefinite postponement of the exam, originally scheduled for June 15, due to administrative and logistical challenges.

Why Was NEET-PG 2025 Postponed?

The postponement came after the Supreme Court responded to a writ petition from aspirants and the United Doctors Front (UDF), represented by Advocate Satyam Singh. The petition challenged NBEMS’s earlier plan to hold the exam in two shifts, citing concerns over fairness and potential disparities in difficulty levels between shifts.

In response, the Supreme Court directed that NEET-PG 2025 must be held in a single shift to ensure transparency and integrity.

Logistical Hurdles in Conducting a Single-Shift Exam

According to NBEMS’s interim application, its technology partner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), reported that it was not feasible to conduct the exam in a single shift on June 15. The reasons included:

  • Short preparation time to arrange logistics

  • The need to book and equip over 1,000 test centres across 250+ cities

  • Accommodating approximately 2.7 lakh candidates (including buffer capacity)

  • Deploying around 60,000 trained personnel

  • Setting up over 2,000 local servers

  • Ensuring coordination with law enforcement and cybersecurity agencies

Given these constraints, TCS recommended August 3, 2025, as the earliest viable date for a single-shift NEET-PG.

What’s Next for Aspirants?

The NBEMS’s application to reschedule the exam is currently pending approval from the Supreme Court. If approved, NBEMS will announce a revised schedule, including city intimation slips, admit card release dates, and other important details.

Meanwhile, NBEMS is working to expand secure test centres and upgrade infrastructure nationwide to accommodate all candidates in a single shift, as mandated by the Supreme Court.

Advice for Candidates

Aspirants are urged to regularly check the official NBEMS website for the latest updates and announcements regarding NEET-PG 2025.
