The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a significant relaxation in the qualifying criteria for the stray round of NEET SS 2025 counselling, expanding opportunities for doctors aiming to pursue super speciality medical courses. Now, all candidates who appeared for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test – Super Speciality (NEET SS) 2024 and possess a valid MD, MS, or DNB degree are eligible to participate in the final round of counselling, irrespective of their exam scores.

In an official statement, NBEMS clarified, “The Health Ministry has allowed all doctors who appeared in NEET SS 2024 exam and have the right degree (MD, MS, or DNB) to join the last (stray) round of NEET SS 2024 counselling.” The board emphasized that while the qualifying percentile has been lowered for this round, candidates’ exam ranks—determined by the specific question paper attempted—will remain unchanged. However, all participants must still fulfill the eligibility conditions outlined in the NEET SS 2024 information bulletin and complete face ID and biometric verification if required.

The NEET SS 2024 examination was conducted on March 29 and 30, with results declared on April 25. This year’s format introduced three time-bound sections to enhance the assessment process.

Meanwhile, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has temporarily postponed the NEET SS stray vacancy counselling due to a scheduling conflict with Tamil Nadu’s second round of state counselling for in-service government doctors. Additionally, the MCC has allowed candidates who secured seats through the Institute of National Importance Super Speciality (INI-SS) counselling to withdraw from NEET SS 2025 counselling, though their security deposits will not be refunded.

NBEMS has advised all candidates to regularly check the official MCC website for updates regarding the stray round counselling schedule.
